Homemade Matcha Lattes

Matcha green tea has suddenly blown up! All the chain coffee shops and little cafés are coming out with all things matcha. I have to be honest, I don't really mind! I love matcha lattes. Because I love them so matcha, I wanted to learn how to make them! So I am going to share my recipe with you!!

First off, I did some research and it turns out that matcha actually has a lot of health benefits. It is both yummy and good for you! Matcha is actually a powdered tea. The green tea leaves are crushed into a fine powder. Matcha is high in an antioxidant called polyphenols. This can protect against heart disease, cancer, and can help regulate blood sugar levels.

One thing that is important to note is that matcha is high in caffeine. People claim that it is different than the caffeine in coffee. But it is still good to be aware of if that is something you are trying to stay away from.

I got my matcha powder from a local store called Adams in the area where I live. It is by the Republic of Tea. You can also buy matcha powder in bigger quantities online or through Amazon.

So let's latte away!!

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon Matcha Powder

  • 1/2 cups hot water

  • 3/4 cups milk (any preference)

  • 1 teaspoon honey (any sweetener)

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • cinnamon (optional)

First: Boil the hot water. Once it is boiled, combine hot water, honey, and vanilla extract in a mug. Put that aside.

Second: Boil the milk on the stove. Once the milk is hot enough, use an electric whisk to froth the milk.

Note: I do not have a milk frother so I just used an electric whisk. Feel free to use that if you have one!

Third: Once the hot water has cooled a little bit, stir in the matcha powder. The matcha powder mixes better when the water is not boiling hot.

Fourth: Combine the frothed milk and the matcha mixture.

Fifth: Sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon on top.

Now enjoy your drink!

Note: This same latte can be made into an iced matcha latte. Instead of frothed milk use regular milk. Once the matcha mixture is cool, combine it with the milk and serve over ice.

I love this recipe! Feel free to comment if you liked this recipe or if you made modifications to it. I am hope to create more desserts and foods with matcha powder that I can share with you!
